Teaching at the MA “Communication and New Journalism” Program, Open University of Cyprus
Dr. Athanassios N. Samaras is an assistant professor in International and Political Communication at the International and European Relations Department, University of Piraeus and the director of the Strategic Communication and News Media Laboratory. He is also teaching at the M.A. “Communication and New Journalism” Program of the Open University of Cyprus.
He holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Piraeus, an M.A. in Communication Policy from City University (London, UK) an M.A. in Political Communication and Rhetoric from Emerson College (Boston, USA) and a Ph.D. in Political Communication from Sussex University (Brighton, UK). He is the author of two books on political advertising (2003 and 2009) and the editor of a collective volume on the images of nations and international communication (2014), as well as of one on political communication of Brexit. He has authored more than 30 essays published in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes and more than 90 presentations at international conferences. He has published in Greek, English and French while his work has been translated in Russian and Turkish.
His research interest is on international and political communication, strategic communication and campaigning, intercultural communication, images of nations and nation-branding, ethnocentrism and Europeanization in political discourse and news media, rhetorical communication and persuasion, news media and crisis management, political advertising, talk shows and interviews.
